Overtime calculator (Honduras)

What this calculator does

Calculates the pay for your overtime hours in Honduras by the type of extraordinary shift: day (+25%), night (+50%), and night-shift prolongation (+75%), per arts. 329 and 330 of the Labor Code.

It starts from the monthly salary to derive the ordinary hourly wage and applies the surcharge for the chosen type.

How it is calculated

The ordinary hour is monthly salary ÷ 30 days ÷ shift hours.

Day overtime is paid at +25% and night overtime at +50%, both over the day-shift hour (art. 330 a and b).

Night-shift prolongation is paid at +75% over the night hour, which already embeds the +25% ordinary night premium (arts. 329 and 330 c).

Formula

Ordinary hour

ordinary hour = monthly salary ÷ 30 ÷ shift hours

Day overtime (+25%)

overtime hour = ordinary hour × 1.25

Night overtime (+50%)

overtime hour = ordinary hour × 1.50

Night-shift prolongation (+75%)

overtime hour = (ordinary hour × 1.25) × 1.75

Worked example

You earn L12,000 per month with an 8-hour day shift and work 10 overtime hours.

1. Ordinary hour: L12,000 ÷ 30 ÷ 8 = L50.00.
2. Day (+25%): L50.00 × 1.25 = L62.50; × 10 = L625.00.
3. Night (+50%): L50.00 × 1.50 = L75.00; × 10 = L750.00.
4. Night-shift prolongation (+75%): night base L50.00 × 1.25 = L62.50; × 1.75 = L109.38; × 10 = L1,093.80.

For 10 overtime hours: L625.00 day, L750.00 night, or L1,093.80 as a night-shift prolongation.

How to interpret the result

Night-shift prolongation is the most expensive because its base already includes the 25% ordinary night premium (art. 329).

Ordinary plus overtime hours may not exceed 12 per day (art. 332).

Overtime is allowed a maximum of 4 times per week (art. 333) and is prohibited in dangerous or unhealthy work.

Common mistakes

• Applying the +75% over the day hour: the prolongation is computed over the night hour, which already includes the +25%.
• Confusing the ordinary night premium (+25%, art. 329) with night overtime (+50%, art. 330 b).
• Using an hours divisor other than the real shift: day 8, night 6, mixed 7.
